What would have been the seventh annual Oculus Connect will now be rebranded as the ‘Facebook Connect.’ The conference over the years has showcased new Oculus technology, gear and other extended reality (XR) efforts.

On the Oculus official Twitter account the company wrote:

“New name. New stage. New trailblazing technology. Stream it on the Facebook Reality Labs page or in Oculus Venues September 16.”

The response has been rather critical of the name swap. Although there are some who are obviously against any and all involvement of Facebook in Oculus brand directly, others seem to think the name is rather silly. I’d have to agree with the later.

This comes off the back of the news two weeks ago that Oculus would now require all users to use Facebook accounts to login to their devices.

Facebook purchased Oculus in 2014 for $2 billion, although their cross-brand involvement has, until recently, been very minimal.
