In a short video posted to his social media channels, actor Orlando Jones, who plays Mr Nancy in American Gods has stated that he was fired from the show. He followed up in a tweet later clarifying that the date he was fired was September 10th, 2019.
Not beating around the bush at all, Jones very bluntly puts accusations on new showrunner Charles Eglee:
The new season 3 showrunner is Connecticut born and Yale-educated, so he’s very smart and he thinks that Mr. Nancy’s angry get-shit-done is the wrong message for black America. That’s right. This white man sits in that decision-making chair and I’m sure he has many black bffs who are his advisors and make it clear to him that if he did not get rid of that angry god Mr. Nancy he’d start a Denmark Vesey uprising in this country. I mean, what else could it be?”

The loss of Orlando Jones for American Gods could be the final nail in the coffin of a very rocky production since the show lost it’s original showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green after the first season. Jones does thank them in his video, along with American Gods author, Neil Gaiman.
American Gods was expected to return for its third season around mid-2020, but who knows what else is happening with the production of the series.
Thank you #AmericanGods fans.
I know ya'll have LOTS of questions about the firing. As always I promise to tell you the truth and nothing but. ❤️ Always, Mr. Nancy🙏🏿 pic.twitter.com/sDouoQlUMd— Orlando Jones (@TheOrlandoJones) December 14, 2019
