Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales – Ultimate Edition
The follow up to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man from Insomniac Games is nothing short of superb. Although it is available for PS4, it’s on the new PS5 where the game shines best, between the beautifully detailed New York City, to the option to play in buttery-smooth 60fps — swinging around as Spider-Man has never felt this good. It doesn’t hurt that Miles’ story is a true super-hero origin with a heart of gold and a story that will take you on an emotional journey.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a must-own PS5 game, and the Ultimate Edition comes with a remastered version of the 2018 game as well. That’s two massive Spider-Man games to play on your PS5 console!

The Last of Us Part II
Undoubtedly one of the best games of the year, even if it has been one of the most controversial. The Last of Us Part II delivered a sequel that strikes as many emotional power-house scenes as the first game and tells an even more gripping story. Yes, you should have played the first game to get the full breadth and emotional resonance from playing Part II, but we wouldn’t hold it against anyone who simply Wikipedia’d the plot to jump into the sequel.
Naughty Dog has crafted one of the most visually impressive games, and it’s not even running on the new hardware. From finely detailed environments to the fantastic animations for everything in the game — this is a masterpiece on a technical level.

Ghost of Tsushima
Sucker Punch delivered one of the best open-world adventure games this year with Ghost of Tsushima. Highly inspired by Samurai films, especially Kiwosawa movies, you play as Jin Sakai who stands as the last surviving member of his clan. As Jin, you must gather allies and retake Tsushima from the invading Mongolian Empire.
Ghost of Tsushima is a game you’ll spend hours exploring and taking the time to use the games photo mode — it’s that beautiful. You also have a lot of room when it comes to the combat as you can choose to play with stealth as your primary option or take enemies head-on in a duel.
A recent massive free content update at the ‘Legends’ mode which extends Ghost of Tsushima’s content to include a co-op multiplayer mode. There’s even a raid that needs four players to complete. Did I mention it was free?

HyperX Cloud Revolver S
I’ve been using the HyperX Cloud Revolver S all year for gaming on all the major consoles and PC. It’s my headset suggestion for 2020 not only because it’s the headset I’ve used to most, but because it’s the most versatile, functional and one of the comfiest pair of cans I’ve put on my head.
With the HyperX Cloud Revolver S, you have a simple plug & play set-up. You can plug the headset into the bottom of your PlayStation 5’s DualSense and Xbox Series X|S controllers without the need of any USB. It even works the same with the Nintendo Switch (although, not with the Pro controller, unfortunately) and any phone/tablet. You can, however, use the included USB cable with your PlayStation even PC which will enable Dolby Digital 7.1 surround sound.
Aesthetically, it’s not very “gamer,” which, if you like RGB lights, maybe a negative, but it does mean it’s going to be a safe present. At worst they’re disappointed it has no flashy lights, which is better than being annoyed it has them at all.
The headband and earpads are all super-comfy, and they’re not going to wear out after a couple of months of use. The cord is also quite long coming off the headset, with the USB extension to use 7.1 Doly Surround even longer. It can be excess if you’re using it on a PC, but for consoles in a lounge room, you’ve got plenty of room to sit back on your couch.
The microphone is not built into the headset, which is a standout feature when compared to most on the market. It is a straightforward piece that doesn’t extend, although it had bend wiggle-rim to it so you can shape it closer to your mouth when in use. The audio quality is nothing special, but nothing with a headset ever is. It’s good enough for online gaming with friends. When you want to use the headphones for single-player gaming, you can take the mic out and set it aside in a draw or next to your console for when you’ll need it next.
With hundreds of hours use at this point, the Hyper X Cloud Revolver S is my 2020 headset suggestion for all consoles and any gamer.

External SSD Storage
You cannot currently upgrade the storage of the PlayStation 5. Which sucks, as you quickly chew through your available storage very quickly between PS5 and PS4 game installs, alongside any game captures you’re saving. One thing that can help alleviate this problem is an external SSD. No, you can’t transfer your PS5 games to store on it (at least, not yet), but you can store any installed PS4 games on the external SSD.
I’m suggesting the Samsung T5 Portable SSD Drive. The 1TB drive is enough to store 20+ big PS4 games and having the extra space isn’t going to hurt in the long-run. Especially if Sony patches in the ability to store PS5 games we’re not using on the external SSD and then transfer them over when we want to play them.
This drive is ridiculously tiny as well which means you can hide it nicely behind your console and it won’t take up any space.
