Although we know that Larian Studios is working on a Baldur’s Gate III, one of the spin-off games from 2001, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is now getting a spiritual successor from developer Tuque while drooping the Baldur’s Gate name tag.
Announced during The Game Awards with a rock ‘n’ roll trailer, Dark Alliance is a fresh take on the action game and this time featuring the Dungeons and Dragons superstar character that is Drizzt Do’Urden in a leading role.
Nathan Stewart, Head of Franchise for Dungeons & Dragons spoke about Drizzt’s role in a press release:
“Drizzt and his companions are some of Dungeons & Dragons’ most recognisable heroes. This all-new Dark Alliance will give players a visceral experience that drops them into the action of a Drizzt storyline like never before.”

Jeff Hattem, the VP Digital Development for Tuque Games said the following about Dark Alliance:
“From the moment I founded Tuque, our team has known that we wanted to bring our passion for D&D and creativity to the Dark Alliance series. We’re taking players on an epic journey through the harsh and violent, Icewind Dale, where they’re going to need to use their wits, their weapons and their party members to help them survive the iconic monsters we’re going to send their way.”
The game will combine hack-and-slash combat with a loot and progression system in line with your typical RPG. You’ll be able to play in both couch co-op and online with up to four friends picking from Drizzt Do’Urden or one of his companions, the human Catti-Brie , the dwarf Bruenor, or the barbarian Wulfgar.
Dark Alliance is currently scheduled to release in the second half of 2020 on PC and consoles (I’m guessing PS5/SX.)
