Sony has taken legal action against the small production company that was selling PS5 faceplates. The company originally had the website PlateStation5.com before it was forced to rebrand to CustomizeMyPlates.com and now they’ve been forced to shut down entirely.
VGC reports that the owner of the website had received several threats by Sony that has forced them to shut down the website for good.
The owner of the website said that they didn’t think they’d be infringing on Sony’s copyright, but Sony lawyers said otherwise.
“Sony’s lawyers told us it was their opinion, Sony’s intellectual property extended to the faceplates, and that if we continued to sell and distribute them in any country, we would end up in court.”
The company has now been forced to refund all orders, which by all reports, were quite a few.
Sony hasn’t announced any other colours for the PS5 console, or the intent to sell different coloured faceplates.
If you want to be an absolute savage you can just spray paint yours when you pick up your PS5 console next week. If you do that, please send me the results. (Actually, please don’t do that.)
