Studio MDHR announced not one but two new Cuphead projects during Summer Game Fest 2026 last week. One of them is a brand-new mainline game, and the other, coming sooner, is an 8-bit spin-off.
The big part of this news from Studio MDHR was confirming that development has officially begun on a new hand-animated Cuphead game, which will take Cuphead, Mugman and friends on an entirely new adventure. This all came part of the ‘Studio MDHR Special Bulletin.’

Alongside the sequel announcement, Studio MDHR revealed Mighty Cuphead Adventure, a retro-inspired action platformer. Making this game more authentic is that Mighty Cuphead Adventure is programmed in Assembly Language and designed to match the specifications of the Sega Master System. While it will release on current consoles and PC, you’ll actually be able to play the game on an actual Sega Master System using a physical cartridge, if you have access to the console, that is.
Studio MDHR says it will share more details about Mighty Cuphead Adventure in the coming months, while the newly announced Cuphead game remains in early development.
