A lovely portfolio of art spotted by Nerd4.life has revealed that Naughty Dog and Sony were — and possibly still are — collaborating with an animation studio to create a bridging short film between The Last of Us and The Last of Us: Part II.
On Oddfellow’s website the company posted about their work on a Last of Us animated short that would have bridged the two games and allow new and old fans to get a recap of the story so far. The page has since been pulled down, but not before the internet has saved the images.

You can find all of them on Imgur here.
Although their post ends noting that Sony decided not to move forward with the project, that may be as much as they are aware, or Sony may have moved in a completely different direction with the project. Either way, the general idea of a bridging project is a good idea, and the art style is shown in this particular project I’m a big fan of so it’s disappointing it didn’t work out.
