Comedy continues to be a genre mostly pushed onto streaming-only services, but thankfully, five films made it to the big screen in 2025 to enjoy and laugh at. This list wasn’t limited to films that made it to cinemas, but it’s great to see that the five we’ve picked were films that made it to the big screen and could be enjoyed as communal experiences.

Here are our picks for the Top 5 Comedy films released in 2025.

5.) The Roses

Play

Marital bitterness and dark comedy intertwine as what was once love becomes all-out emotional warfare. The Roses leans hard into its sharp dialogue and escalating cruelty, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman trading barbs and shots for our enjoyment as this marriage slowly but loudly circles the drain.

4.) The Naked Gun

Play

I’m not sure how it happened, but a Naked Gun film that is, for the most part, delivering the classic slapstick, rapid-fire jokes style that the original films had, actually worked in 2025. Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson make for a perfect pair here, able to make even the wildest scenes, like the snowman one, work and provoke uproarious laughter in the cinema.

3.) Splitsville

Play

The most I’ve laughed in a cinema in 2025 was during Splitsville, during the outrageous and hilarious fight scene early in the film. This dark comedy isn’t afraid to sit in awkward scenarios and scenes, as long as they feel right for the characters, and thanks to the great cast, they bring the jokes out through simplicity, thanks to playing their parts straight, for the most part, rather than trying to ham it all up.

2.) Novocaine

Play

Jack Quaid plays a man with an inability to feel pain whose girlfriend gets kidnapped, a core concept that they mine for comedic and action beats. Seeing Quaid’s annoyance at booby traps that would have anyone else writhing in pain is very amusing, but it’s not just the setpieces that get the laughs; the relationship between internet friends Nathan and Roscoe also delivers plenty to laugh at.

1.) One of Them Days

Play

The pairing of Keke Palmer and SZA was perfect in One of Them Days, which features some of the year’s most hilarious dialogue and interactions. And this is a film in which the jokes come from scenarios that should be somewhat relatable to most of us, eliciting the best kinds of laughs.
