Apple has revealed what features will be coming in tvOS 17, including FaceTime video conferencing and, most importantly, a way to find the bloody Siri Remote easily.

Sound & Support

With tvOS 17, Dolby Vision 8.1 will be supported, bringing more dynamic metadata over supported movies and TV shows. Furthermore, for those using a HomePod second gen, you will be able to enable an enhanced dialogue feature to separate the dialogue and action to help add better clarity.

Apple TV will get third-party VPN support with tvOS 17.

FaceTime

Apple TV 4K users will be able to use the new FaceTime app on Apple TV to initiate calls, handoff calls, and use the ‘Continuity Camera’ support to conned to an iPhone or iPad and use it as a microphone and camera for the FaceTime call on the big screen. These calls on the big screen will look great, and you can use new gestures to trigger on-screen effects like hearts. Apps like Webex by Cisco and Zoom will be coming to tvOS.

A game-like experience in ‘Apple Music Sing’ will be coming to tvOS 17, which lets you sing along to your favourite tracks together on-screen using the ‘Continuity Camera.’

For those who like watching movies and TV shows with friends and loved ones, the new Split View will let you have someone’s face on the side of the screen while you’re watching something together.

Apple TV Remote

You will be able to launch the Apple TV remote in Control Centre on your iPhone to find your Siri Remote (2nd generation or later), and as you get closer to the remote, a guide on your phone will tell you if you are getting hotter or colder.

Also, for those that have multiple users on their Apple TV, you’re going to be happy that when launching the remote on iPhone to wake up the Apple TV, it’ll now automatically switch to your profile and even remember your paired AirPods if you were using any.

Screen Savers

Several new stunning aerial screen savers will be coming to tvOS 17, as will the ability to use your favourite photos and memories as screensavers instead.

Apple Fitness+

Custom plans will be coming to tvOS 17, adding custom workouts and meditation schedules based on your schedule on a day, duration and more. And you can set up Stacks to do back-to-back workouts and mediations. Audio Focus will also allow you to choose to prioritise the volume of either music playing or trainers’ voices.

Apple will release tvOS 17 this Spring.
