‘Twin Mirror’ Is A Three-Part Episodic Mind-Melter

by Dylan Blight

DONTNOD’s upcoming psychological thriller, Twin Mirror will have you diving into your mind palace like Sherlock Holmes when it releases its first episode in early 2019.

We finally have a grasp (kinda) of what exactly the story will be with Twin Mirror, which when first revealed looked like an episode of the Twilight Zone, or a Stephen King novel. You’ll be playing as Sam, an investigative journalist — a job title which has great luck in small towns. Sam awakes in his motel room with no memory of his previous night and a blood-stained shirt on his person, so he attempts to solve what has happened to him.

At GamesCom today, details of two new game mechanics were revealed. The first is the previously mentioned mind palace, which — if you have watched Sherlock (the Benedict BBC one) — then yeah, Sam in this game does that. He can access his memories and keep details of things he sees hidden in his mind to find later. The other detail is more on the psychological level: Sam has an inner voice that is dubbed “The Double,” which I’m almost certain must be a nod to the book of the same title by Fyodor Dostoevsky. This inner voice will be working to help, or hinder Sam, and it’ll be up to you to discover that for yourself.

Twin Mirror will release its first of three episodes, titled “Lost on Arrival,” early in 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
