You may or may not have had the time to finish all the games from February, with plenty of big RPGs between Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Dragon’s Dogma II, but too bad! It’s a new month, and new games are here to discuss. So put your buster and longswords down and look at what’s coming out this month.

Here are all the major and some of our picks for video games that are releasing in Australia in April 2024. Look for the explosion (💥) for the three things I’m most excited to watch this month, and let me know what you’re looking forward to playing in the comments section below. 


April 9

April 11

  • Broken Roads (PC) 💥
    Broken Roads is a story-rich, party-based RPG set in a decaying, post-apocalyptic version of the vast Australian Outback, featuring a genre-redefining morality system. Survive, form bonds, and make tough choices that will shape your dangerous yet mesmerizing journey across the wilds.
  • 💥1: This Aussie game has been coming for a long time, and after a brief delay, it’s finally about to be released. Following the years since reveal, writing about it, playing several different demos — I’m excited to finally get into the full game.

April 16

  • Harold Hailbut (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S) 💥
    Harold Halibut is a handmade narrative game about friendship and life on a city-sized spaceship submerged in an alien ocean. Join Harold as he explores a vibrant retro-future world in his quest to find the true meaning of ‘home’.
  • 💥2: I’ve been looking forward to Harold Hailbut since it first showed up in one of the many ‘Summer Game Fest’ adjacent events. A full video game that’s created using claymation isn’t something you see or hear about every day, and that’s just the first reason I’m excited to check this out.

  • Grounded (Nintendo Switch)
    The world is a vast, beautiful, and dangerous place – especially when you have been shrunken to the size of an ant. Explore, build, and survive together in this cooperative survival-adventure. Can you thrive alongside the hordes of giant insects, fighting to survive the perils of the backyard?

April 18

  • Final Fantasy XVI – The Rising Tide DLC
    An unmarked letter arrives at the hideaway containing a request most curious: the Dominant of Leviathan, long lost Eikon of Water, is in need of rescue. To heed this call, Clive and his companions must journey to Mysidia—a hidden land under a blue sky—where they will uncover the tragic history of a forgotten people.
