SEGA and RGG Studio have given an extended look at Virtua Fighter Crossroads, revealing a surprising new direction for the long-running fighting game franchise, which is now featuring a heavy amount of narrative.

Following its appearance at Summer Game Fest, the team confirmed that Virtua Fighter Crossroads will launch in 2027 and feature a narrative-driven action-adventure mode alongside the traditional fighting game modes.

You can watch the reveal trailer below:

The story mode in Crossroads will follow four different protagonists whose stories intersect in the city of Vilasapara. You’ll be exploring the city, taking part in side activities and making choices that influence relationships and story outcomes.

The game’s story is being written by a preety big list of creators, including David Hayter, as well as writers who have previously worked on Ghost of Tsushima, Persona 5 Royal, and the Like A Dragon series.

Plenty of new details of the game were talked about in a special showcase, which you can watch in full below.

While Crossroads is a departure from previous entries in the series, SEGA has confirmed it will still include the full suite of local and online versus modes for competitive players.
