Australian Novella ‘Storm Boy’ Game Adaptation Coming Late 2018
by Dylan Blight
Sydney based developer Blowfish Studios has announced they will be releasing an adaption of the classic Australian novella, Storm Boy and will be releasing it in late 2018.
Most Australian’s have probably have seen the 1976 film based on the book by Colin Thiele — or I’m assuming everyone watched it in School like I did. If you haven’t, the story takes place in a South Australian beach town where a boy rescues washed up pelicans, befriending them and leading adventures with them. I’m dodging spoilers but it’s a classic tale of growing up as a young boy.
In Storm Boy: The Game you’ll be able to play as both the boy and the pelican named Mr Percivell and participate in key moments like when they rescue sailors in a storm.
You’ll also have a variety of mini-games to play including sand drawing, cockle hunting, fetch to play, sand surfing, pelican feeding and more.
For a relaxing experience, you’ll be able to take to the skies and enjoy the views from above of the lagoons and coastline.
“We hope players of all ages will enjoy this story, whether it’s for the first time or through a new lens, and can’t wait to share it with the world when we release it for consoles, PC, and mobile devices later this year.” said Ellen Jurik, Senior Producer, Blowfish Studios in the press release.
There is also a movie based on the book releasing in 2019. So get prepared for lots of Storm Boy over the next 12 months!
You’ll be able to check out Storm Boy: The Game for yourself at PAX West and PAX Australia later this year, but for now, check out the teaser below for glimpses of the beautiful art:
