San Diego Comic-Con Trailer Round Up – Day 2

by Ashley Hobley

San Diego Comic-Con is here and a bunch of trailers for a heap of nerdy properties have dropped. Unfortunately, we can’t do our regular reacts this week, which you can normally see live on Twitch or later on Youtube. But check out my thoughts on some of the big trailers from Day 2 of Comic-Con below.

GLASS

I haven’t seen Unbreakable or Split, but it feels like I didn’t have to because Sarah Paulson’s character does a solid job of explaining the story behind the three men at the centre of this story. This looks really cool. Obivously we have been bombarded with superhero movies of late but this one feels very different. James McAvoy looks amazing, as does Samuel L. Jackson. The music and lighting really make this stand out. I might just have to check out those two films before this comes out in January

Rating: 👍👍

YOUNG JUSTICE: OUTSIDERS

Young Justice returns! Unfortunately, not with a good trailer. The first 3 minutes is a recap of season 2, focusing on the Artemis-Kid Flash relationship. Young Justice fans are once again made to see Kid Flash disappear (I’ll admit, I got misty-eyed). We then see the team dealing with a child abduction problem in Markovia before a bunch of cuts of different heroes, villains and scenes. While I am stoked to see more of this, and can’t help but wonder why  focus on Kid Flash unless you were going to tease a return. I guess I was just hoping for more than just a recap and a sizzle reel.

Rating: 👍👎

DRAGON BALL SUPER: BROLY

Looks like more Dragon Ball… As a casual fan, I didn’t understand why they’re making Broly a big unknown threat. Hadn’t he been in a bunch of movies before? Well apparently those weren’t canon and now this is… It looks fine. Nothing really stands out. I’m sure it ends with Goku prevailing.

Rating: 👍👎

HOMECOMING

Cool production design. I’ve never seen pineapple served like that. Julie Roberts in this. From the creator of Mr Robot. Not much else to say. Other than that the goldfish looked interesting. Its fine, but not going to get anyone interested off anything but the names involved.

Rating: 👍👎

Disenchantment

This looks like a medieval version of Futurama with an animation style somewhere more in between that and The Simpsons (the elf guy looks an awful lot like Bart) and I’m good with that. This trailer got a couple of chuckles out of me (“I’m drowning! I’m Elfo”) and I’m hopeful that it will have the emotional moments that could be found throughout Futurama and the earlier years of The Simpsons. I’ll definitely be checking this out come August. Who doesn’t want to see a drinking princess doing stuff?
