The Gaming Christmas Summer/Winter has begun, and it’s all kicked off with Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest: Kickoff Live! The event lasted around 90 minutes and featured a tone of trailers, ultimately culminating in a trailer for Elden Ring. Thus, releasing Geoff from the prison gamers placed him inside a year ago.
There’s about as much meta-history there as a Devolver Digital E3 conference.
Anyway, here’s all the trailers and reveals from the Summer Game Fest show.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
Tiny Tina is either a super-charming or annoying character from Borderlands 2 that later received her much-loved DLC titled Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep, which was a riff on Dungeons & Dragons. Wonderlands seem to be a continuation of that idea but stretched out into a full-fledged spin-off Borderlands game.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is releasing sometime in early 2022.
Metal Slug Tactics
As the title states, this is a tactics game with a Metal Slug take. I’m into it.
Death Stranding: Directors Cut
Geoff had old mate Hideo Kojima call in for an interview that didn’t reveal much. Other than the fact, Kojima is quite happy to continue talking politics in games as other developers run from the idea like the plague.
He did do a “one more thing Geoff”, and a trailer played for Death Stranding: Directors Cut, which is coming to PS5, and we’ll get more information about it in the coming weeks.
Jurassic World Evolution 2
Jeff Goldblum showed up to do the Jeff Goldblum thing before revealing Jurassic World Evolution 2, which is due out later this year.
Sable
Sable received a release date of September 23rd amongst a performance from Japanese Breakfast.
Lost Ark
Lost Ark has been out in Korea since 2018 and in open beta in Russian since 2019. The game finally received a 2021 release date for EU/NA.
Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War + Call of Duty: Warzone – Season 4
A free patch on June 17th is adding some classic maps, some new zombie mode, and some map changes coming to Warzone.
Free Guy
Ryan Reynolds made a joke about Elden Ring, and Geoff did a big gulp before showing a trailer for the upcoming movie Free Guy.
Among Us
A fifth map is on the way as well as achievements, new clours and more.
Sony Indie
Shuhei Yoshida, who we barely get to see anymore, showed up to talk about Chicory: A Colourful Tale, which just released on PS4 & PS5, before debuting the trailer for Sword and Sacrifice, which will release in 2022.
Chivalry 2
Just a trailer to remind everyone that the game released this week!
Valorant
An ultra-short teaser for a new agent!
Escape From Tarkov
The ‘Streets of Tarkov’ is a new area in development for Escape from Tarkov and featuring big abandoned building, destructible environments and more.
Two-Point Campus
The follow up to Two-Point Hospital was officially announced. It looks charming and also seems to feature magical powers, but otherwise, if you liked the last game, check this out.
Netflix Geeked Week
Did you know that Netflix is holding a week-long event at the moment to reveal information about geek related tv shows/movies? Geoff is going to be there to show a clip from the Cuphead Show.
SMITE
There’s a Stranger Things cross-over coming to SMITE, and the trailer was madness.
Prime Matter [Publisher]
This is a brand new publishing label that is going to oversee at least 12 IP’s currently. At the top of the list is PAYDAY 3, which we got little further information on, but there was also the announcement of a brand new Painkiller game being in development.
The Anacrusis
A brand new game titled The Anacrusis was shown off, which looks like Left 4 Dead on a space station.
Vampire The Masquerade: Blood Hunt
It’s been a while, but here’s a brand new battle royale for you all and this time, it’s set in the Vampire The Masquerade universe.
The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes
This is the third game in The Dark Pictures Anthology from Supermassive, titled House of Ashes.
Tales of Arise
This was a teaser trailer of sorts for Tales of Arise showcasing some of the cast.
Sky: Children of the Light
Thatgamecompany’s latest release is making its console debut on the Nintendo Switch soon.
Planet of Lana
Excellent art design and variety of creatures had me hooked on this trailer and brand new game from new developer Wishfully, which is coming to Xbox/PC new year.
Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance
A short let’s play clip of Dark Alliance featuring WWE’s Ember Moon, comedian Hannibal Buress, game developer Jeff Hattem and Geoff Keighley was shown during the show, but the full video is above.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
A story-focused trailer for Wings of Ruin showcased the characters and monsters at the heart of the game. The trailer also revealed a couple of new amiibo at the end.
Wave Break ft Weezer
A live performance of Weezer’s new DMCA free song alongside footage of Wave Break, which is a game about a boat/skateboard.
Endless Dungeon
A culmination of Amplitude Studios previous games has lead to Endless Dungeon. This isometric dungeon-crawling RPG was originally revealed back in 2020 at The Game Awards, and Geoff had it bring it back to give a bit more information. This trailer focuses more on the characters and how you play the game than just setting a tone.
Far Cry 6
Actor Giancarlo Esposito then showed up to talk about his character Anton Castillo in Far Cry 6. He had some interesting comments, including that he wasn’t the villain of the game.
Fall Guys
It’s 2BEAN. A weird Fall Guys x Nier crossover, but whatever.
Deviation Games
New developer Deviation Games came on stage to deliver a studio pitch, more or less. Dave Anthony and Jason Blundell are the founders and previously worked at Treyarch on many of the Call of Duty games. The follow up to just saying they’re a studio was that they’ve partnered with PlayStation for their first game, seemingly confirming its console exclusivity.
Tunic + Tribes of Midgard
Two indie games, Tunic and Tribes of Midgard, got some quick trailers and tidbits. Tunic is also getting a brand new demo in the upcoming Steam Next Fest.
Evil Dead: The Game
The trailer for Evil Dead: The Game confirmed you could play as either the humans or the demons. The human characters have to work together to gather pages from the Necronomicon to banish the demon, while the demon — well, it kills the humans.
Elden Ring
As a huge bang for the show and a way for Geoff to earn a giant round of applause and pat on the back, he got the exclusivity on the Elden Ring trailer.
There’s a lot in the trailer, and you can tell the game is coming along nicely. In fact, we got a release date which is January 21st, 2022, on PC, PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S.
And that’s all from Keighley’s Summer Game Fest. Of course, there’s much more happening over the next week or so – but this was a great way to kick things off!
