The 14th Season of Apex Legends brings the action back to Kings Canyon, with a bigger level cap and some controversial changes to fan favourites guns.

Kings’ Canyon

In case you’ve forgotten, Skull Town & Thunder Town were destroyed by Loba in Season 5; a salvation operation has been underway, which has now been completed. The Syndicate has rebuilt King’s Canyon for the Apex Games, and the action is back bigger than ever. In place of ‘Skull Town’ is ‘Relic,’ a new location that’s been built with lovers of Skull Town in mind, but hopefully without the same issues that place caused some players.

There are many changes all over the map for Season 14: Hunted. ‘The Cage’, a favourite place for players to bunker down, has had a level removed, with most of its walls removed. Hillside no longer has any of its buildings, and ‘Broken Relay’, the least visited/used/landing point of any POI on King’s Canyon, has seen a refresh; now named ‘Basin’, it has more buildings and places to loot.

Kings Canyon has also seen an overall refresh with a new skybox and entirely new lighting.

New Attachment

This season’s new attachment is a Laser Sight which will replace the Barrell Stabilisers for SMG and Pistols. Like other FPSs, the attachment should push them into a more focused, hip-fire gameplay. The question about other players’ ability to see the laser sight was asked at an event I attended. Although players can see the laser, it sounded like it would be only in close quarters environments and not in a way that would give away your position.

Ammo Changes

In a change that will upset some, The Wingman will switch to using Sniper Ammo in Season 14 and the Sniper Extended Mag. The Spitfire also switches from a Heavy Ammo weapon to a Light Ammo one. The change to The Wingman makes the most sense of the two but will hurt Wingman mains. With the ammo change, players will no longer be able to carry as much ammo for The Wingman easily and will have to think a bit more strategically.

Gold Shield & Backpack Changes

Changes to Gold Packback and the Gold Shield have been long requested and are finally arriving this season. The Gold Knockdown Shield will no longer have the Self Revive perk and instead will have the Gold Backpack perk of giving revived players an extra shield and health. The Goldback will now get a new perk called ‘Deep Pockets’, which allows you to carry three Big Shield Recharges in one inventory place, and two Pheonix Kits.

EVA-8 Is Back

Seasons ago, the EVA-8 got a significant nerf and lost the Double Tap attachment; that’s returning now, as well as an increase to the rate of fire.
