The tone for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is not one of the murderous thugs making their way to England to pillage and make the world their own. Instead, our first cinematic trailer for Valhalla offers a view of our Vikings spending time playing with their kids and protecting their own. Its the ominous voice of Alfred the Great who’s naming the Vikings evil and signing a declaration of war.

As the trailer released so did a preview piece from Eurogamer which contains lots of interesting information from the Lead Producer of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Julien Laferrière.
In the article, it gives our Assassin’s name, Eivor and also gives a better idea of whats going to truly make this entry in the franchise stand out.
Eivor will be a highly customizable character as well and you’ll be able to play the character as either male or female. You’ll also get to make many more choices including facial hair, tattoos and so forth.
When asked about the trailer featuring the male version heavily and not showing a female version of the protagonist, Laferrière said it’s because more marketing will follow with both versions.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will explore the settler side of Viking culture head-on as you spend the game building up one area and returning to it throughout the game. Instead of constantly being on the move and unlocking new areas and deleting sections of fog-of-war, you’ll be slowly expanding your home base, but always having a firm ground.
Laferrière said the following:
“It’s your own Viking village you’ll see prosper and grow, and which your clanmates will live in […] it’s at the centre of our quests and the centre of the decisions you make. We want players to see the consequences of their actions.”
As to where the game will take place – the cinematic trailer confirms its Britain, but the Eurogamer piece does have Laferrière explained that the game will start in Scandanavia so players have an understanding of why the Vikings leave for England in the first place.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has been in the works for two and a half years now at Ubisoft Montreal with assistance from fourteen other studios. The game has been designed for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, but there is going to be PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game as well as PC and Stadia releases.
There are many more interesting pieces of information in the full Eurogamer preview which I suggest you check out yourself in full if you’re interested in more.
