Sony has made Astro’s Playroom a centrepiece when showing off the PS5 since its reveal. The free package-in will be included, pre-loaded, on all PS5 consoles. It’s been obvious for some time now that the game will be a great showcase for the console’s abilities, in particular, the DualSense controllers, but we haven’t known just how big the game is.
According to an interview from Famitsu that was translated by IGN, Team Asobi’s creative director and producer, Nicolas Doucet, says that Astro’s Playroom will include roughly 4–5 hours of playtime. This is across the game’s four worlds, which will include a bunch of collectables and PlayStation tributes. The four worlds are apparently called Cooling Resort, GPU Jungle, SSD Speedway, and Memory Sky, although as IGN states in their report, the names might change in the English version of the game.
Since the 4–5 hours of playtime was mentioned alongside the collectables and secrets to find, I’m going to assume that Doucet is talking about completionists gathering everything and, presumably, getting all the trophies for Astro’s Playroom.
There’s also a time attack mode in the game with an online ranking system. Doucet didn’t go into more detail about exactly what the time attack mode entails, however.
Sony announced a change to the PlayStation Trophy system overnight which means if Astro’s Playroom is a ‘free’ platinum, it’s all the more important for those wanting to reach the prestige ‘Platinum’ level on their account.
