Narelle Fraser spent 27 years with Victoria Police, 15 of them as a detective across the Rape and Homicide Squads and the Missing Persons Unit, investigating some of the most disturbing murder, child abuse, and sex offences of the time. In the new documentary The Policewoman, in cinemas nationally from 5 November, she revisits the highs and lows of a career spent grappling with shocking crime. This took a toll on her own mental health, and caused her to be discharged from the force. It did however pave the way for her to become one of Australia’s top true crime podcasters and mental health advocates.
The Policewoman uses miniature dioramas as Fraser retraces different moments from her career and discusses both her experiences investigating crime and the impact they had on her life.
The film will hold its Victorian premiere at Echuca’s Paramount Cinema on October 17 before releasing in Australian cinemas nationwide on November 5.
