Season 3 of Battlefield 2042 is only a couple of weeks away, and DICE is ramping up to what could be the best time and the right time to jump into Battlefield 2042.
Not only is Battlefield 2042 about to get a new Specialist, but it’ll also receive a new map, reworks for two other maps, new hardware, the return of classes to the game, and it’ll be joining Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
The most significant change to Battlefield 2042 will be the re-introduction of classes. This change will mean that Specialists will have defined roles and see them get access to specific gadgets and tools, just like how classes have worked in previous games. This change isn’t coming at the launch of Season 3; however, instead, it’s estimated to be coming to the game in early 2023.
Irish has been switched into the Support role, and Crawford is swapping in as the Engineer. The two are also swapping traits.
Weapon proficiencies are coming to the game too, and DICE listed the following as examples:
Assault – Assault Rifle Proficiency
-
Assault Rifles are ready to fire quicker after sprinting
Engineer – Utility Proficiency
-
Utility Weapons have improved reloading capabilities
Support – LMG Proficiency
-
LMGs have additional magazines and are more efficient when deploying bipods
Recon – Sniper Rifle Proficiency
-
Faster to stabilize when holding breath, with longer hold breath durations
Regarding hardware, new Vault Weapons are coming with Season 3. Bad Company 2’s XM8 is being added to the LMG pool alongside Battlefield 3’s A-91. There’s going to be more, too; they’re just yet to be announced.
Update 3.1 and update to Manifest will align with other map changes: HQ flags closer and removal of the redundant playspace. Breakaway will also get a massive overhaul in Update 3.2 alongside the Specialist rework.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will be able to jump into Battlefield 2042 soon, and the game will be included in EA Play.
There are also going to be some free-to-play sessions across consoles in December. The times for those are listed below.
