LucasFilm & Disney+ are preparing to begin production on the Cassian Andor Star Wars series but Deadline is now reporting that Tony Gilroy has been forced to drop out of the directing job.
Gilroy, who will still be serving as Executive Producer and Showrunner for the Cassian Andor series, lives in New York, which is apparently very hard and unsafe to travel out of at the moment. The report from Deadline states that leaving New York for the UK to shoot the series was a tough decision for Gilroy, but ultimately he chose to stay at home out of safety and health concerns.
Replacing him for at least the three episodes that Gilroy was set to direct is Toby Haynes who is most known for his directing duties on BBC’s Sherlock, Doctor Who and the ‘U.S.S Callister’ episode of Black Mirror, which was the winner of several Emmy’s.
The Cassian Andor series is set to star Diego Luna once again, returning to the character that he played in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The plot remains a secret but will apparently focus on the early years of the rebellion and, presumably, the spy activities of Andor in the lead up to the events of Rogue One.
Disney+ is also set to begin shooting an Obi-Wan series for its streaming service sometime soon. The second season of The Mandalorian begins streaming next month, exclusively on Disney+.
