Ubisoft held its second Ubisoft Forward event for 2020 early Friday morning. The showcase featured Immortals: Fenyx Rising, Watch Dogs: Legion, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake and more.
Prior to the event, Ubisoft attempted to address the current mass allegations of misconduct sweeping their company and problematic issues that had arisen from the release of Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad.
A video was posted to Twitter prior to the event where CEO Yves Guillemot apologised for the allegations of misconduct and spoke about what the company shall be doing in the future to prevent such things from happening again. Guillemot also said that the company shall be putting one million dollars into a program that will, over the next five years, bring in more developers from under-represented groups to Ubisoft.Guillemot also called the recent inclusion of the Black Lives Matter symbol in the opening cinematic for Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad as an “oversight,” and also said that Ubisoft “fully supports the Black Lives Matter movement.”
When asked by a Twitter user why this message didn’t open the Ubisoft Forward event, Ubisoft said the following:
“We hear you, due to timing constraints, we chose to release the video as a standalone message before our #UbiForward event, but we are working to ensure it will be available in full in the VOD versions of the show.
Just to be clear: this events date and time were picked by them and there is no reason they couldn’t include it in the actual presentation.
The pre-show kicked off a couple of hours after this Twitter video was posted.
