Sucker Punch has announced the highly anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, and their first game for the PlayStation from the ground up, and it’s titled Ghost of Yotei.
Instead of a direct sequel continuing the story of Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima, this sequel is set around 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima and now follows a new Ghost named Atsu. Even with a new lead and set in a different feudal Japan location, the reveal trailer still looks every bit like a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.
“To create something fresh but familiar, we looked beyond Jin Sakai’s story and the island of Tsushima and shifted our focus to the idea of the Ghost instead. At Sucker Punch, we love origin stories, and we wanted to explore what it could mean to have a new hero wearing a Ghost mask and uncovering a new legend. This led us to Ghost of Yōtei: a new protagonist, a new story to unfold, and a new region of Japan to explore.”
The story of Ghost of Yotei is set in the surrounding area of Mount Youtei, in the heart of Ezo, an area of Japan that is now known as Hokkaido.
Ghost of Yotei is set to release in 2025 on PS5.
