Explosion Network is expanding our podcasts, once again, and this time we’re diving back into the world of animation.

Animated Wonders is our brand-new podcast dedicated to celebrating animation in all its forms — from anime and Western films to hidden gems, classics, and everything in between.

Whether it’s a deep dive into a beloved Studio Ghibli film (like we’ve done before), a discussion of the latest Pixar release, or a spotlight on an animated series, Animated Wonders is all about exploring the artistry, storytelling, and impact of animation across the globe.

Special thanks to Simon Blackburn for the fantastic podcast artwork for this new show!

Our First Episodes

We’re kicking things off with a range of episodes that showcase exactly what Animated Wonders is all about — a mix of deep dives, reactions, and broader discussions around animation.

The first episode of the show, and our first season, focuses on Mamoru Hosoda, an animator and director from Japan.

We’ll also be following up this series with tandem releases, including a discussion of the Toy Story series and the Despicable Me/Minions series.

We’re coming out of the gate with a bunch of episodes for this new series, and we plan to keep it an active podcast feed and a must-listen for film and animation lovers for years to come.

Why Animation?

Animation is one of the most creative and diverse storytelling mediums out there, yet it’s often overlooked or underestimated. We’ve spoken about this a fair bit on our film & TV podcast, What Do You Wanna Watch?

Animated Wonders exists to change that — to highlight the depth, craft, and emotional storytelling that animation can deliver, no matter the format or origin.
