After many rumours, teases and leaks, The Mafia Trilogy has been officially announced. It’s equally confusing as it is exciting. You can get your hands on the second and third games now, but the first isn’t arriving until late August.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is by far the most exciting announcement from this collection. It’s complete from the ground remake using a new game-engine with new gameplay and an extended story. The original Mafia game was released on PC, PS2 and Xbox back in 2002 so this is a huge upgrade.

Mafia II: Definitive Edition is a 4K visual remaster of the original game that includes all the DLC in one nice package. Mafia II was originally released in 2010 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

If you own Mafia II on Steam you’ll have received a free upgrade to the definitive edition. If you played it on PS3 (like I did) or Xbox 360, unfortunately, there’s no free upgrade.

The definitive editions of both Mafia 1 & 2 are being developed by Hanger 13. This will mean the developer has their prints on all three games in the series now as they were the developer of Mafia III.

Mafia III: Definitive Edition is your regular complete package. It includes the game and all the DLC that has been released. Mafia III was only released in 2016 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One so it’s not surprising it doesn’t have any major new features in the trilogy pack.

However, it’s definitely worth pointing out that owners of Mafia III on any platform are automatically getting an upgrade here to the definitive edition. This means you’ll have access to all the DLC if you didn’t previously.

PlayStation members who were PS+ subscribers when Mafia III was on the free list of games will now have unlocked all the DLC for free as long as they remembered to redeem the game when it was available last year.

Mafia II: Definitive Edtion and Mafia III: Definitive Editon is available right now on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Mafia: Defitine Edtion arrives on August 28th.

You can buy the trilogy now for $99:95 and get access to Mafia 2 & 3 now with the first game later in August. Mafia: Definitive will cost $69.95 at launch, while Mafia 2 & 3 are selling for $49.95, so if you plan on playing at least two of them it’s cheaper to just buy the trilogy pack.

Let us know in the comments below if you’re excited to play any of these games, or even just the first one in its complete remade form.
