MUBI has announced ‘MUBI Cinema Club,’ a new seasonal event series that will bring curated film screenings and special experiences to independent cinemas across Melbourne.

Running throughout the winter, this initiative pairs three acclaimed films with themed pre-screening events at local restaurants. Each event is free to attend, with reservations opening on July 13 at 12 PM AEST.

Tuesday, July 21 – Cinema Nova, Carlton

 

Alejandro González Iñárritu’s acclaimed debut returns in a new 4K restoration, bringing its interconnected stories of love, violence and family in Mexico City back to the big screen.

Before the screening, you can enjoy Mexican street food from Frankie’s Tortas & Tacos. At the same time, Mexico City gallery ALMANAQUE-Fotográfica presents works from renowned photographers Yolanda Andrade and Eloy Valtierra, curated by Arturo Delgado.

Wednesday, August 26 – Lido Cinemas, Hawthorn

The latest film from Park Chan-wook follows a seemingly perfect life that slowly unravels, blending dark comedy with psychological tension.

The event will feature Korean snacks from Richmond restaurant Sogumm, alongside an interactive recycled paper-making workshop hosted by Dodgy Paper, where you can create their own handmade paper to take home.

Tuesday, September 8 – Brunswick Picture House

Karim Aïnouz’s latest film centres on a dysfunctional family living in a striking modernist home, exploring themes of privilege, desire and hidden secrets.

Ahead of the screening, you can enjoy a “A Perfect Rose” cocktail from Carnation Bar, while Soya Florist transforms the cinema with a floral installation inspired by the film.
