Netflix Acquires Australian Documentary Series 2.6 Seconds: Death in the Outback
The four-part series set for an international release in early 2027.
Netflix has acquired the Australian documentary series 2.6 Seconds: Death in the Outback for a transnational release in early 2027.
Produced by Blackfella Films for SBS and NITV, the four-part series examines the death of 19-year-old Kumanjayi Walker and its wider impact on conversations around justice, policing and race in Australia.
Darren Dale, Blackfella Films Producer, said: “2.6 Seconds is a shocking story about the collision of race and power that is uniquely Australian but one I’ve always believed also has global resonance. Netflix coming on board ahead of our TIFF premiere is confirmation of that belief and I cannot wait to see how international audiences respond to this powerful series.”
Darren Dale directs and produced the series, with Andrew Boe serving as writer and executive producer alongside Jacob Hickey.
Amanda Duthie, Content Director Netflix ANZ said: “Some stories stay with you long after the screening, and 2.6 Seconds is one of those. Netflix is honoured to bring this deeply moving Australian documentary to Netflix audiences around the world, giving a powerful and important story the opportunity to resonate far beyond our shores.”
2.6 Seconds: Death in the Outback will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it is the only documentary among the 10 series selected for TIFF’s Primetime program.
