Sony has not made taking your PSVR library and headset to the PlayStation 5 a very easy process. We only learnt how to get the adaptor for the PS4 cameras (necessary to use PSVR) last week and now it seems you’ll need to play sub-par versions of games on your PS5 console if you want to use your PSVR.

Upload VR has reported that if you buy the PS5 versions of games like No Man’s Sky or Hitman III you’ll be locking yourself out of the PSVR content for those games.

This means you’ll need to buy the PS4 versions of these games to make sure you can access the PSVR versions.

In an email speaking to a Sony spokesperson in regards to Hitman III’s upcoming VR mode they said:

“You’ll need the PS4 version of Hitman 3 to play it in VR since the PSVR operates as a backward-compatible device.”

For No Man’s Sky, Hello Games said earlier this week that a PS5 upgrade of the game is on the way, but the PSVR version is only played by-way-of backwards compatibility.

Luckily both digital versions of No Man’s Sky and Hitman III have free upgrade paths from PS4. This is still a bit of a headache. Paired with Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan’s recent comments about VR not being a meaningful component of PlayStation this year, or the next, PSVR fans have the right to feel a little concerned.

But how do you feel about all of this? Let me know in the comment section below.
