PlayStation has announced that the ‘PlayStation Stars’ program will be coming to an end.

If you’re not sure what the PlayStation Stars program is, don’t look shocked, its closure is definitely because it’s a loyalty program. PlayStation launched in 2022 and has never taken off.

When the program launched, it was an opt-in one that you could access on the PlayStation app. You could then earn points for playing particular games, purchases on the PlayStation store, or completing specific monthly challenges. The points could then be used to purchase PlayStation gift cards, particular games directly, or other random items Sony has added to the store over its run.

Players could also earn ‘Digital Collectables,’ which, although some of them did look cool for a moment, couldn’t be used outside of the app—or even in the app, for that matter.

In announcing the closure of PlayStation Stars on the PlayStation Blog, Grace Chen, Vice President, Network Advertising, Loyalty & Licensed Merchandise, said:

“Since launching the program, we’ve learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends. Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program and look into ways to build upon these learnings.”

From today, you can no longer join the program, and current members of PlayStation Stars will still be able to earn Digital Collectibles and points until July 23.

You’ll have until November 2, 2026, to use any points on your profile, as PlayStation Stars will fully shut down then.

Wrapping up, Chen said:

“The programs we create are all inspired by you, and we look forward to bringing you compelling new experiences for many generations to come.”
