Mega Evolution has been a point of contention for Pokemon GO players since they implemented it into the game. But today, Niantic has revealed the changes they are making to how you use and earn Mega Evolutions in Pokemon GO.
The most significant change is that when you Mega Evolve a Pokemon, you won’t need to use Mega Energy to Mega Evolve it again. Instead, you can wait for it to rest (this varies on Pokemon).
Your Pokemon’s Mega Level will increase the more you Mega Evolve it, with bonuses tied to the higher levels, similar to friendship bonuses.
You can see the bonuses listed below after I Mega Evolved my Altair.
Some other quick bits:
-
Most Mega Raids will now be easier
-
You can Mega Evolve your Pokemon in the raid prep screen.
-
You can use Mega Energy to decrease your Pokemon’s rest period to Mega Evolve it earlier.
These changes are in effect in Australia and New Zealand right now, and the rest of the world will have the update rollout sometime soon.
