I missed the memo that a remake of the PS3 classic arcade game Shatter was being remastered, but it’s happening. The brick-breaker took the gameplay many knew and added a hyper-visual style, fantastic soundtrack and boss battles and was a critical success during the early days of downloadable games. And it now sounds like we can expect a remastered version of the game to release sometime in 2022 for the current generation of consoles.
Back in 2018, during a Resetera thread discussing Shatter, ‘MarioW’ who works at PikPok, gave an update on the team who made Shatter back in 2010 as Sidhe.
“So, Shatter then… well, we’ve looked at a life for the game beyond where it was, and investigated bringing it to iPad a couple of times over the years. However, the code and visuals are a bit of a nightmare to port given some engineering choices. We haven’t looked at a Switch version, and that may be a possibility, but nobody has looked at it as we are slammed right now until the end of the year. We’d certainly appreciate people buying it on PC/Mac in the meantime.”
Later on in the thread, after some more discussion, ‘MarioW’ came back to say, “[there are] details to sort through (so I can’t make definitive statements about timing and platforms), but Shatter will be coming to modern consoles.” And since then, there’s been a semi-constant update on high a remake/remaster of Shatter has been going.
