Sony has shut down Bluepoint Games, which it acquired in 2021.

Bluepoint Games is best known for its fantastic work remaking and remastering games. For the PlayStation 3, they released The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection and the God of War Collection, alongside the original Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. For PlayStation 4, they brought Uncharted: The Nathan Drake CollectionGravity Rush Remastered, and the full remake of Shadow of the Colossus. Their most recent and last game was the PlayStation 5 launch title, Demon’s Souls, a remake of the game originally developed by FromSoftware. Shortly after this, they were purchased by Sony and assigned to help with the development of God of War Ragnarok.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier notes that they had reported on Bluepoint, then began work on a “live-service” God of War game after Ragnarok, which was cancelled in January 2025, leaving PlayStation unsure what to do with them next. Seemingly, the answer is nothing and then close the studio.

Around 70 employees will be losing their jobs because of the closure, with Bloomberg reporting that a spokesperson for PlayStation said:

“Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team, and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community.”

Fans had been holding onto hope for a very long time that Bluepoint Games had been secretly working on a remake of Bloodborne.

Over at Push Square, Sammy Barker has pointed out that PlayStation hasn’t published anything on its social media accounts since the news of Bluepoint Games’ closure broke. The last thing shared on X is a post about Marathon, Bungie’s upcoming PVPvE game, which is basically now filled with nothing but anger about Bluepoint.
