A brand new action-adventure game in the beautiful HD-2D art of the Octopath series of games has been announced by Square Enix and Team Asano during the July Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is the new game from the developers of Bravely Default, Triangle Strategy and Octopath Traveller. You’ll play as Elliot, as he ventures forth from the Kingdom of Huther, which is protected under powerful magic, and heads out into the monster-filled and mysterious world beyond. Elliot is joined by a fairy named Faie in this game, and players can also play in co-op to play as both characters.

As you explore, Elliot will run into monsters, and he’ll be able to use several different weapon types to take them down, including swords, bows, chains and sickles. Check out some of that action in the trailer below.

Tomoya Asano said this about the reveal of  The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales:

I’m very pleased to announce The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, the first action RPG in the HD-2D series. It features simple and easy to understand gameplay yet offers a deeply satisfying and challenging experience!

As the HD-2D series has expanded and evolved, we’ve gradually shifted genres. We started with a classic RPG with OCTOPATH TRAVELER and went on to do a strategy game with TRIANGLE STRATEGY. When we thought about where to go next, we felt that challenging ourselves to an action RPG would be a good direction.

It goes without saying that we want to deliver this game to all the people who enjoyed the games that we have made previously (BRAVELY DEFAULT, OCTOPATH TRAVELER, TRIANGLE STRATEGY, etc.), but I would be delighted if it could reach out to a new audience of gamers as well!”

There’s a demo for The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales available now on Nintendo Switch 2 for players to check out. Please note that this isn’t a demo, and your progress will not carry over to the game’s full release next year.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales will release in 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
