It looks like The Last of Us will be going beyond its third season, if it’s up to showrunner Craig Mazin. In fact, he’s recently insisted that there’s “no way that the show can be wrapped up in three seasons.

If you’ve joined our podcast discussion of the latest episode, you know I agree with this statement; the idea of wrapping up The Last of Us Part II’s story in just one more season seems ridiculous at this point.

In an interview with Collider, Mazin talks about the latest episode and how they’ve changed the creative process this season compared to working on the first season. When talking about getting ready for the second season, Mazin said, “Okay, this source material goes way beyond one season.” And he continued on in the interview to say:

“I think there’s a decent chance that Season 3 will be longer than Season 2, just because the manner of that narrative and the opportunities it affords us are a little different […]  But certainly, there’s no way to complete this narrative in a third season. Hopefully, we’ll earn enough to come back and finish it in a fourth. That’s the most likely outcome.”

Are you enjoying watching The Last of Us: Season 2? And do you think it’ll need a fourth season to wrap up the story properly? Let me know in the comment section below.
