A month after revealing the release date for The Last of Us Part II the game has been delayed until May 29th, 2020.

This news comes directly from developer Naughty Dog’s own Neil Druckman who explained the news in a PS Blog post this morning.

“[…] During the last few weeks, as we were closing out sections of the game […] we realized we simply didn’t have enough time to bring the entire game up to a level of polish we would call Naughty Dog quality. At this point we were faced with two options: compromise parts of the game or get more time. We went with the latter, and this new release date allows us to finish everything to our level of satisfaction while also reducing stress on the team.”

Naughty Dog as a developer has been known to crunch hard on their games in the final months, so looking at the final line about “reducing stress” I can only hope this is a delay in-light of wanting to give better working conditions towards the final product.

And look, I get it. You want to play the game, I do too. But getting angry about a delay when it’s potentially saving the mental sanity of the developers is fantastic news. Plus there are so many things out early next year as is, we’ll all be fine.

Take your time Naughty Dog.
