Who knows what exactly will send Ellie on a revenge mission in The Last of Us Part II? That is sarcasm. Those darn dirty leakers do! Anyway, forget that. There’s a story trailer and I give it my seal of approval for being an awesome trailer but also for showing sweet f-a in terms of major spoilers.
Check it out below and watch it in 4K if you can, it’s gorgeous.

Okay, so the trailer does seem to reveal what could be the initial event that sends Ellie on a rampage. Although, it could be the trailer playing tricks on us – who knows.
You’ll notice at 00:33 seconds in the town of Jackson (or what I assume is Jackson) is ablaze. From 00:55 you hear Ellie and Tommy discussing something that “would be leaving Jackson vulnerable.”
The way the trailer places this event after the fire seems to hint they’re discussing how to get revenge, but, it’s more likely that Ellie and Tommy are discussing something that leads to Jackson being left vulnerable and then set on fire with some group of invading and killing, presumably, much of the town.
You have to wonder why neither Tommy or Joel aren’t seen with Ellie in elements of the game that seem to take place after the fire.
What follows these opening slower moments is a visceral display of violence from Ellie. It seems she’s somewhat losing control of herself on her mission and could be heading to a dark place.
At the 1:38 mark, you do see a shot of Ellie and Joel looking at each other in worried or sad recognition of something. Interestingly these two shots are framed similar to the ending of the first game, except with Joel and Ellie on opposite sides of one another. Could she be letting him on some bad news, or even telling her own shocking lie? Is Joel revealing the truth – that he lied for all these years about the fireflies?
I’m certainly excited to find out on June 19th when The Last of Us Part II releases on PS4.
