When the new Xbox was revealed on stage at The Game Awards many questioned it’s a rather confusing name, the ‘Xbox: Series X’.’ But it turns out all of us were overthinking a simple thing. The box is simply going to be called the Xbox.
Speaking to Business Insider, a representative for Xbox said the following:
“The name we’re carrying forward to the next generation is simply Xbox. And at The Game Awards you saw that name come to life through the Xbox Series X.”
This confirms theories about plans for this coming generation of Xbox consoles.
“Similar to what fans have seen with previous generations, the name ‘Xbox Series X’ allows room for additional consoles in the future.”
The current generation of Xbox includes three Xbox consoles, the Xbox One, Xbox One S and the Xbox One All Digital Edition. So to set up their next generation of consoles to allow for different boxes makes sense and I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that a disc-less Xbox will launch alongside the Series X in 2020.
So just remember — it’s the Xbox. We’re back to ground zero again.
