Frogwares surprised us earlier this week by launching The Sinking City Remastered, which is out now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The best news about this reveal, besides the fact that it is already out, is that the remaster is free for all those who already own the game on any platform.
Sergiy Oganesyan, Publishing Director at Frogwares, said this in a press release provided with the announcement:
“We plan to do big things with The Sinking City IP, starting with the sequel and then beyond. So, after our rather well-known struggles with the original, it feels amazing to have this positive moment be part of the game’s twisted history and for us to be the ones to fully decide it. Making it free to all our existing fans is our way of giving back to them for having supported us all this time through thick and thin.”
The Sinking City was originally released in 2019 and developed on Unreal Engine 4. With this remaster, the team at Frogwares rebuilt the game in Unreal Engine 5.
Here’s what the team have said the key additions to the remaster are:
- The game is fully relit in Unreal Engine 5
- Enhanced locations with additional levels of detail and objects
- 4K textures and improved reflections
- Photo Mode
- Support for DLSS, FSR and TSR upscaling
- Various gameplay adjustments, certain accessibility features and more
The Sinking City 2 wrapped up its Kickstarter earlier in the year, making +450% of its initial target. The remaster of the first game was part of the goals in that campaign.
