Word on the street was that AT&T was looking to sell off the gaming division of Warner Bros. There was much speculation about who would be interested in picking up the likes of Batman games, LEGO and Harry Potter IP. However, it now seems that nothing shall be changing hands.
In a company-wide email, CEO of Warner Media Jason Kilar wrote:
Warner Bros. Interactive remains part of the Studios and Networks group, along with our Global Brands and Franchises team including DC led by Pam Lifford, and our Kids, Young Adults and Classics business led by Tom Ascheim, all focused on engaging fans with our brands and franchises through games and other interactive experiences.
This news comes following the reveal that Rocksteady Game is working on a Suicide Squad game that will be getting its full reveal during the upcoming DC FanDome event.
In full the email details many changes in the other sectors of Warner Media. As outlined in these five steps:
1.) We are elevating HBO Max in the organization and expanding its scope globally.
2.) We are simplifying how we organize our studios.
3.) We are creating a consolidated International unit focused on scale and efficiency.
4.) We are bringing our key commercial activities into one group to allow us to operate more strategically.
5.) We are making other structural changes that will help us operate more effectively and efficiently.
We shall see more of what it’s instore later this month at the DC FanDome event about the Suicide Squad game, and possibly even a separate Batman game if rumours are to be believed. We’ll find out soon enough.
Shout out to Eurogamer for spotting this one.
