Nintendo Switch Buries A VR Mode In Firmware

by Dylan Blight

It appears Nintendo is working on VR for the Switch, or at least fiddling with the idea. Twitter user random666_kys has shown via a video on his account showing a working test mode on the Switch running a VR mode.

After fiddling within the VR menu data miners found within the Switch since version 3.0.0, random666_KYS managed to get the Switch to boot up a screen displaying a duplicate side-by-side image, which is how VR is displayed in most cases. The screen displayed reads: “Please move the console away from your face and click the close button.” It would make sense if Nintendo is working towards putting the Switch into another peripheral to run the VR.

There have been rumours of Nintendo Switch VR before, but nothing has been as concrete as this system in the firmware.

The implications of the Switch getting VR support would be interesting and, of course, you have to wonder if Nintendo would be working on a fully-fledged VR capable system, or possibly just something more family friendly — I’m looking at you, Labo VR.

If I want to be a crazy conspiracy theorist, I’m going to throw out the idea that the hidden mode we recently saw in the Smash Bros Direct this past week is a VR mode. Put your tin-foil hats on folks.

What do you think of this find? Is Nintendo Switch VR something that interests you?
