Bitmap Books' The Arcade 1971–1999 explores classic arcade games' history through interviews and more
Bitmap Books is looking back at nearly three decades of arcade gaming with The Arcade 1971–1999: The Stories Behind Classic Coin-Ops, Told by Their Creators.
Written by video game journalist Paul Drury, the 408-page book covers 120 classic arcade games and tells their stories through the developers, artists and other creators who were actually there. Drury spent twenty years researching this book, with interviews and conversations spanning decades.
The book features a foreword from Atari co-founder Nolan Bushnell and an afterword from Defender and Robotron creator Eugene Jarvis. Arcade figures including Pong creator Al Alcorn and Asteroids and Gauntlet creator Ed Logg also contribute.
The physical release is a hardback with thread-sewn binding, a foil-blocked cover and arcade cabinet illustrations from artist Adam Rufino.
The Arcade 1971–1999: The Stories Behind Classic Coin-Ops, Told by Their Creators releases on October 1 through Bitmap Books, and you can pre-order now.
