Carrion contains 9 containment unites for you to find. Each rewards you with a power-up of a different variety which can range from an increase in your health to your energy bar.

There is one containment unit in every level except for the first. This includes the ‘Frontier’ which acts as an overworld.

Each walkthrough below shows you how to reach and solve any puzzles to get the containment unit. You’ll sometimes need powers you don’t have initially to reach each containment unit so it’s best to check the guide for each level first, or simply come back and pick all nine up after you’ve completed the game.

Tips & Tricks

  1. You’ll spot the room/location the Containment Unit is being held in with a little fish logo that’s glowing white. See below above a picture.

  2. Although some of these power-ups may help you in the game, they’re considerably easier to find and complete once you’ve beaten the game.

  3. You can’t fail any of the puzzles even if you accidentally move or kill someone you needed. Leaving and reentering the room always solves the problem.

Military Junkyard – Containment Unit No. 1

This one is located fairly out in the open in an area you’ll have to make your way through.

Look for the fish logo and find the first containment unit inside.

There’s no puzzle for this unit.

Frontier – Containment Unit No. 2

Head right of the level entrance for ‘BSL-4 Research Ward’ and loop up and around into the water pipe heading down.

Go left and you’ll spot the fish logo below you. You’ll need LVL 2 Carrion to smash the wood in the way and head down onto the next screen.

Spot the door on the right side of the screen. The Containment Unit is inside, and no puzzle is to be solved.

Uranium Mines – Containment Unit No. 3
(LVL 2 smash + swimming required)

As you make your way through the level you should spot this glowing fish logo on your right but you need LVL 2 Carrion smash to be able to reach it. If you have it, smash the wood in the way, if you don’t, come back later as you’ll also need the swimming skill to head into the pipe below.

In the puzzle room, you’ll notice the Containment Unit at the bottom of the screen. Activating the switch in the middle of the room will open the door guarding it, but also activate a lot of lasers in your way.

Firstly, you need to drop biomass in the previous room until you’re LVL 1 Carrion.

Now charge your energy bar up on the electricity block in the middle of the room and activate the laser via the switch.

Use invisibility to move to the first part of the wall with cracks in it. Your invisibility doesn’t run out as long as you’re standing still, so stay stationary there and shoot off your web-shot (RB) at the electricity block and get a fresh charge-up.

Continue this for the next two cracked wall points around the room and eventually drop down into the Containment Unit location without breaking invisibility.

Botanical Gardens – Containment Unit No. 4
(requires swim + mind control required)

In the big open area you’ll return to several times during the level there is a save-point on the left side of the room. Head inside the room above that save point, it’s literally going the opposite direction of the exit location sign.

Head straight down two floors and you’ll spot the fish logo on the left-hand side of the room. It’s blocked by a door but you can swim underneath and then use mind-control on the soldier to open the door. Then pick up and carry that soldier into the next room.

Either carry or mind-control to place the solider up against the locked door at the bottom of the room. Then use the switch in the middle of the room to open that door.

Use the gap below Carrion and the switch to mind control the soldier and have them climb up the ladder on the left side of the room and activate the switch at the top.

You can now access the Containment Unit.

Leviathan Reef Base – Containment Unit No. 5
(requires swim + LVL 3 Carrion smash + shield required)

There’s a section where you’d usually go straight up after getting the power to swim through the tight gaps — instead, swim right.

On the next screen, you’ll spot a barricade only LVL 3 Carrion can smash. Head through there towards the puzzle.

Stop and fill up your energy bar if you don’t have any before passing into the next screen.

Head right across the screen and you’ll pass over a javelin explosive, just make sure to hold LB to activate your shield and head straight up and around the corner.

Head through the pipe and pull the switch.

Go out into the water again and through to where you saw the door open. Head inside this pipe and refill your energy.

Head back out into the water and go flick that same switch from before.

Go back out into the water one final time and this time head down over the gun that’ll fire a javelin explosive at you. Hold LB to shield yourself and head left across the screen to grab the Containment Unit.

Relith Science HQ – Containment Unit No. 6
(LVL 3 Carrion smash + invisibility required)

In the room where the level exit is head into the water at the bottom of the screen and go far right. You’ll spot a small pool where you can dispose of biomass and the fish logo.

You’ll need LVL 3 Carrion to tear your way into the gap so do that first and then dispose of biomass down to LVL 1 Carrion and head through the gap.

In the puzzle-room go through the door to flick the switch and activate the laser.

Use invisibility to sneak past unnoticed and then activate the switch below.

Loop background and grab the biomass you dumped just before.

Re-enter the puzzle room and this time dispose of the mass in the fresh pool right below the entrance.

Use invisibility to get past the laser once again and use the same switch for a second time to have your biomass emptied into the pool below.

Scoop that backup and smash your way into the Containment Unit on the right side of the screen.

Nuclear Power Plant – Containment Unit No. 7
(LVL 3 Carrion smash + shield required)

In the room with the automatic machine gun take the exit at the top right.

In the next room, there’s a small amount of water and a save point tucked into the corner. Below you’ll spot a small pipe that’s being blocked. Use Carrions LVL 3 smash to get that out of the way and head inside.

To your right, you’ll spot a javelin explosive gun and to your left an exit. You can head out to your left and grab some energy if you don’t have any, otherwise, head right and use your shield ability to protect yourself from the explosive.

In the pond of water in the corner drop enough weight until you’re down to Carrion LVL 1 and head down into the next room.

Enter the door to get to the switch and turn it on. Then use invisibility to get past the laser without being spotted.

Head down and take out the guard. Then use mind control to have them walk into the javelin gun and use them to explode the wall guarding the Containment Unit on the left.

Armoured Warfare Facility – Containment Unit No. 8

Another really simple one. At the section just above the levels exit head right and you’ll find the door to the Containment Unit.

Bunker – Containment Unit No. 9

This is the only one I got naturally while playing through the game for the first time as it’s directly on your mission path.

After activating the first save-point you’ll enter a room with the fish logo dead centre in the middle of the screen. Head inside that door to find an easy to grab Containment Unit.
