The biggest reveal from this morning’s Pokémon Presents was Pokémon Legends: Arceus. A prequel to the Pokémon world that gives us a look at an almost feudal Japan looking period. There’s still battling and catching Pokémon, but we certainly haven’t seen a Pokémon game like this one before.
Being developed by Game Freak, this is the next significant direction for the long-running franchise. Your mission in this game is simple: complete the Sinnoh region’s first Pokédex.
Check out the reveal trailer below.

As seen in the trailer, you can rumble and roll into the grass before aiming and your Poké Ball at Pokémon to capture them. You can also choose to throw a Poké Ball containing one of your Pokémon near a wild Pokémon to initiate a battle.

The battles in Pokémon Legends: Arceus are your typical Pokémon battling. You have four moves, a health bar, and you can switch Pokémon in-and-out of the battles. So nothing drastic has changed here, at least, that we know of yet.
There doesn’t seem to be any gyms in this era of the Pokémon world, which is an exciting concept the game may explore. Instead, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is focused on learning and studying Pokémon to create the first Sinnoh Pokédex.

Even the Poké Balls in this period has a “yet to master” look and feel to them.
Interestingly, the three starter Pokémon are from all over the world. You’ll be able to pick from either a Rowlet (from the Alola region), Cyndaquill (from the Johto region) or an Oshwott (from the Unova region) to begin your journey.
The key to this games mystery seem to lay with Arceus itself. A Pokémon with the description “said to have shaped all there is in this world.”
I cannot wait to learn more about Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which is set to release sometime early in 2022.
