The Future of Play 2024 showcase featured games from all types of genres, from claw-machine RPGs to creepy robotic puzzle games and playing as a cat suspecting home invasion.
Here are all the trailers and news from this morning’s Future of Play stream.
Abyss X Zero
This one had some cool pixel art and seems to star characters that look like they’re from Kill La Kill to me.
Zodiac XX: Leo
I’m not sure what’s happening in Zodiac XX: Leo, but it has a ship/jet and a banger of a soundtrack.
Battle Suit Aces
This is the next game from Trinket Studios, who previously worked on Battle Chef Brigade. It looks like a combination of Space Boy-like shenanigans but a card-based gameplay system.
All Systems Dance
Bad robots only have one weakness in All Systems Dance and as the title would giveaway, it’s dancing!
Yooka-Replaylee
Having never played Yooka-Laylee, this remaster/remake of the game makes me want to, as it looks gorgeous.
Nova Hearts
There’s a lot going on in Nova Hearts, but you’re playing as a group of magic-girl and doing battle, plus dating.
A demo for Nova Hearts is available now.
A Date with Death
New DLC for A Date with Death is arriving later this year, and it’s titled “Beyond the Bet.”
The Beyond the Bet DLC is releasing on December 9, 2024/
LOK Digital
This looks like a word puzzle game but with a video game twist.
Croakwood
You play as a frog, and you live in Croakwood and do frog things.
Cozy Marbles
Roll some marbles around to solve puzzles in Cozy Marbles.
A demo for Cozy Marbles is available for you to try now.
Phoenix Springs
Phoenix Springs has shown up a couple of times this SGF now, and it’s a standout visually every time. I can’t wait to play this detective narrative adventure.
Phoenix Springs will be released on September 16, 2024, for PC.
REKA
You play as a young witch who is learning her powers, and building a home in a strange looking world in Reka.
A demo for REKA is available now.
Sandara: City of a Thousand Eclipses
You’re living in a sinking city in Sandara, which doesn’t seem good at all.
Airborne Empire
You control and fly around in a massive airship in this game.
Airborn Empire will be released in Q3 2024.
Dungeon Clawler
This is a cool twist, as what you grab in the claw machine affects your attacks in the RPG battles.
Dungeon Clawler will be released in Q3 2024, and a demo will be available now.
N.O.D.E.
This looked Limbo-esq, but you’re playing as a small robot.
N.O.D.E will be released in 2025, but a demo will be available this month.
Copycat
Copycat is an Australian game that was shown at PAX last year and it’s great to see it showing up here, and should be back in another showcase later. This trailer revealed the release date!
Copycat will be released on PC in September 2024.
Light Odyssey
There are big creatures and a striking, bleak art direction in this game.
Light Odyssey will be released on PC in Q4 2024.
Psychroma
Psychorama is a narrative side-scroller set in a cyberpunk world.
Slay the Princess: The Pristine Cut
The ‘Pristine Cut’ of Slay the Princess is bringing the game to consoles, and adding in new content, which will all be fully voice-acted.
Slay the Princess: The Pristine Cut will be released later this year on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
