The long-rumoured co-op game set in the world of Horizon has been announced by Guerrilla, and it will have a closed playtest arriving on both PS5 and PC at the end of February.

Horizon Hunters Gathering is centred around replyable hunts, and it seems that upgrading, getting better gear and being able to complete harder hunts. Obviously, giving the game a little bit of a Monster Hunter-inspired theme and feel, although the art style here and the world are a little bit different.

Two game modes have been revealed on the PS Blog with the reveal of the game: Machine Incursion, where waves of machines will pour out from underground gateways, ending with a big boss; and Cauldron Descent, which is a longer, mult-stage hunt that sounds a bit more like a raid in an MMO.

You won’t be building or creating your own character in Horizon Hunter Gathering; instead, there will be a rise of uniquely different Hunters for players to choose from, with some using ranged weapons, others being up-close melee. There will be a ‘Rogue-lite’ perk system as well that will enable you change up how your build plays and works with your team.

The game will also feature a social hub between missions called the ‘Hunters Gathering’, where you can mess around with other players, as well as prepare for your next mission.

If you want to sign up and have a chance to be invited to the closed playtest, you can sign up for the PlayStation Beta Program.
