Hot Wheels Unleashed was a pleasant surprise when it was released in 2021, and now another surprise has come in the way of Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged being revealed for a 2023 release.
With over 130 vehicles in Turbocharged, there will be many cars to choose from, but also motorbikes and ATVs, which are new additions to the game. There will also be more variety in the tracks themselves, with five different environments and racing surfaces in the game, each of which will impact the performance of each vehicle.
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged is also adding two new game-changing mechanics. Players will be able to jump at any time in their vehicles and dash in order to overtake opponents, make it into shortcuts, or bash their own vehicles into opponents.
A story mode will star four original characters, each of which will have cutscenes piecing together the story—a huge improvement from the barebones career mode in the first game.
The game will also include more game modes on top of the fan-favourite ones from the first game, including split-screen. Friends on everything but Nintendo Switch can also play together thanks to cross-play support.

Being a Lego game, of course, the track edition returns, as well as the livery editor, which will introduce a sticker editor. All of which can be shared with other players online.
In my review of Hot Wheels Unleashed, I gave the game a 7.5/10 and said:
“The racing here feels good, and even if the AI difficulty isn’t balanced particularly well, replaying a time trial over-and-over to nail the ‘unleashed time’ has kept me going for nearly fifteen hours now. Add in the online lobbies, upcoming DLC, and there’s plenty of reasons to keep Hot Wheels Unleashed installed on your console.”
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged will release on October 19th for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
