Housemarque Games Latest Title ‘Stormdivers’ Is A Battle Royale 

They really weren’t kidding. When Housemarque Games released a blog post announcing an end of an era for the development team and stating “arcade is dead,” they weren’t messing around. Their latest game, Stormdivers, received a trailer and details at GamesCom 2018 and it’s a battle-royale, very much the opposite of any of the arcade games they are known for developing. 

CEO of Housemarque, Ilari Kuittinen in the press release for Stormdivers expanded why the battle royale genre and what makes the game stand out. 

“We began its development when battle royale was still a niche gameplay mode, yet despite the number of BR games on the market now, Stormdivers will excite players with its fast-paced gameplay, metagame, classes and various events, all packaged with Housemarque’s trademark high-quality visual effects. Stormdivers is more than just another battle royale game, and we plan to roll out new content regularly in the future to continuously expand the experience.

If there is one thing Housemarque Games have going for themselves in the market is their pedigree as fantastic game designers. A lot of their games have focused on fast-past, reward orientated, addictive gameplay, which is what battle royales come down too.

Personally, nothing in the trailer stands out from the flooded market right now. But with the Housemarque name attached to it, I’m sure eyes will be on Stormdivers.
