There’s been a few games that have tried to capture the escape room feeling, and another one to join those ranks was revealed at this morning’s Xbox Showcase by publishers Skybound Games and Iam8Bit and developer Coin Crew Games with Escape Academy.
With a bright and cartoon-inspired art style, Escape Academy pits you against various puzzles and escape rooms that you can take on online-line or with a friend next to you.
Wyatt Bushnell and Mike Mohammed Salyh co-founded developer Coin Crew Games. The two have a deep history when it comes to mixing real-world and virtual reality. Bushnell has previously built amusement parks and arcades attractions, while Salyh designed games for Disney and Zynga. The two met at Two Bit Circus, which feature tech-infused massive escape rooms.
Bushnell said the following:
“Our goal has always been bringing people together to play, whether that’s in arcades or at home. As a studio, we’re rigorous about playtesting our designs early and often, a philosophy we pulled from our years developing games for the location based entertainment space.”
