The JSAUX cup holder car mount is a good bit of gear, as sturdy as the desktop mount and almost as adjustable. The stand could be a great addition to many modern cars for navigation or entertainment for passengers. It just might not fit your vehicle.
I have been trialling this mount in various vehicles, and it came as a disappointment in my daily drive. I own an early 2011 model Subaru and have my cup holders in the vehicle’s centre. It is also a manual, and I found it disruptive to my driving due to the way the stand mounts. I later swapped it over to the wife’s car and had similar issues. In both vehicles, the cup holders are set up in the middle of the console; even though the Ute is an automatic, it was better but not great. Moving the stand to the front cupholders placed the phone mount in a more precarious position and made it unsafe to drive with. I did, however, find that the vehicles I drive for work functioned much better. The cup holders are placed in front of the shifter, making it the perfect unit for longer trips if I want hands-free video calls, movies, controller-based gaming, or GPS navigation. Unlike the desktop mount, this model doesn’t support tablets.
The disappointment stopped at the mounting in my car, though, as the stand itself is very sturdy and has decent articulation. Like its desktop counterpart, it is constructed from aluminium, making it light while remaining strong. The stand has three points of articulation, first at the phone stand, allowing for a full 360-degree swivel, and the other two hinges cover a 180-degree pivot and a 360-degree twist. This all comes together to give users a larger range of angles. The full movement is also supported by a stand that can travel from approximately seventeen centimetres to a huge thirty-eight centimetres. Mounting the holder is as simple as placing the base into the cup holder, maintaining a grip on the stand, and twisting the turn knob clockwise. This manoeuvre extends the mechanisms, and they push into the sides of the cup holder. Once this is complete, the stand holds tight with no slippage. Removal is as easy as reversing those steps. The base is compatible with cup holders ranging from fifty-five millimetres to a huge one hundred and ten millimetres.
Unfortunately, the holder is not compatible with my private vehicles. I will, however, use it when driving work vehicles. With some design tweaks like lowering where the shaft’s first point of articulation is, I would benefit and be able to use it. This modification would allow me to have it out of the way and be able to drive while having the phone in a better position. While the JSAUX Cup Holder Phone Mount isn’t helpful for me, the unit is very sturdy and of decent quality.
