I live in Tasmania, and I write about and read about games weekly. Yet I didn’t know that a new showcase of local video games is happening next week. But that’s exactly what’s happening next weekend in Hobart, and the event is free to attend.

‘Level Up Tasmania: Video Game Showcase’ will occur on Friday and Saturday this coming weekend, September 27-28, at the Princes Wharf in Hobart. Thirty games will be on display, and developers will be ready to chat. Plus, there’s an esports event happening on Friday night, and on Saturday, the Grand Final will be screened on the big screen on the PW1 forecourt.

On Sunday there will also be an industry event for Tassie developers, new and old, to come and learn and listen to panels and discussions around the industy.

Minister for the Arts Madeleine Ogilvie said:

“The three-day event aims to raise the profile of Tasmanian-made video games and their developers in the community and on the national stage. The Tasmanian Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future includes a $500,000 investment into the Tasmanian game development sector, with funding from this going to the Level Up showcase.”

The showcase is held at PW1 (Princes Wharf No. 1) in Hobart across two days:

  • Friday, 27 September 2024, 12:00 – 5:00 pm
  • Saturday, 28 September 2024, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.
